Midlane Farm Over the Years

History

George Hikes came to Louisville about 1790 from Lancaster County Pa. Traveling down the Ohio River via flatboat he brought with him his wife Barbara Oleweiler. They settled on land given to Hikes for his service in the revolution as a Colonel. They built a home of which a portion still stands today just off Hikes Lane. The land was rich and suitable for farming and their endeavors began.

Restoration

Midlane Farm has been updated over its almost 200 years but never been altered in any drastic fashion. The back and side porches were an addition in about 1870, electrical was brought in around the turn of the century, coal then oil heat was added in the 1920’s, indoor plumbing was added in 1948. All of these systems were completely updated in 1983 when Barbara and Ed Stephens did a major renovation to the home. The historical integrity of the home was preserved during the process, all of the windows, doors, moldings, plaster and general look of the house is very much as it would have been centuries ago.

Chas and Kim continue to add their touches to the home making it inviting and comfortable for visitors and guests alike. Come by for a visit and experience an historical Louisville time capsule of one of the oldest families in the Louisville area.

Midlane Today

In the Fall of 2013 Chas and Kim decided that it was time to share more of Midlane Farm with not only our local community but our national and global communities as well. Stay with us sometime! We book for overnight stays exclusively through Airbnb, please visit the link and check out our many 5 star reviews. We always offer a glass of wine or drink of bourbon to our guests and Kim will always have a breakfast for you (let us know if you have any dietary restrictions). If you want some stories let Chas know (he is more than happy to share). If you just want to be by yourself we are more than happy with that as well!

Our Reviews

Look at the feedback we've received from guests just like you! We have been ranked with 5 out of 5 stars in these areas. Our goal is to ensure you get the best possible experience while you are at Midlane Farm.

"Five stars is not enough for this review. Everything about our stay at Midlane Farm was extraordinary. The house was spectacular. The accommodations were extremely clean and comfortable - and there was SO MUCH SPACE. The location was super convenient. The breakfast was delicious. The hosts were supremely gracious, and extremely accessible since they were right next door. Traveling with 4 boys (including 3 teens) and a dog can be challenging, but this home was both spacious and cozy. We arrived late, but our hosts were happily waiting for us when we arrived. They were so kind and welcoming! Their bar/family room was the perfect hangout for all of us. They happily opened their kitchen to us, and made us a DELICIOUS breakfast every morning. For the vegan in the group, they offered a beautiful assortment of fresh vegetables right from their garden. Our dog is nervous around strangers. But our hosts were extremely kind and readily won him over. The Farm gave us the perfect place to blend active touring with quiet family time - with a big checker table on the front porch that our boys just loved, and a distance of no more that 15-20 minutes to all local attractions. We could not have been happier with our stay at Midlane and thank our hosts for a superior AirBnB experience."
